On 11 May 2026, the Transition Makers community came together in Utrecht for the Community Event 2026: Fuel the Fire. The event was a great success and brought together a wonderful group of educators and practitioners to share experiences, reflect, connect and co-create. The afternoon clearly showed that the Transition Makers Toolbox is a collection of tools and a growing community of people working together on transition-oriented education and inner development.
During the event, Roos de Jonge shared how she uses The Superhero in Me in education, and how the Inner Development Goals are being integrated throughout an entire bachelor’s programme. Participants also worked together on new ideas for tools connected to the updated Inner Development Guide. The session was warmly opened and wrapped up by Esther Reefman, who guided participants through an embodied check-in and check-out focused on gratitude, reflection and what everyone took away from the afternoon.
“The Transition Makers Toolbox is from educators for educator. It contains ready-to-use educational materials, created to equip students with the necessary skills to become the change-makers of the future.”
Skills for transdisciplinary work
We live in a complex world amid societal transitions, such as brought on by climate change, population growth, healthcare accessibility and digitalization of moving towards a circular society. Shaping these transitions to support a sustainable future requires vision, leadership and skills to initiate and direct change processes. This calls for education where students learn the skills and attitudes to shape transitions.
These capacities are closely connected to the skills needed for transdisciplinary work: the ability to listen deeply, reflect critically, work with different forms of knowledge, engage with diverse stakeholders, and remain open to emergence and change. In this way, the Transition Makers Toolbox aligns strongly with the mission of EWUU Alliance, where education, research and collaboration across institutional and disciplinary boundaries are central to addressing today’s societal challenges.

The Transition Makers Toolbox currently focuses on collecting In-Practice stories from educators who are already using the Transition Makers Toolbox in their teaching. These stories help make visible how the toolbox is being implemented in different educational contexts and offer inspiration for others who want to get started or deepen their practice.
Within EWUU Education, we are currently using a bottom-up approach to implement the Transition Makers Toolbox. Through train-the-trainer workshops and train-the-teacher workshops, we are supporting educators in becoming familiar with the toolbox and in translating its tools and underlying principles into their own teaching contexts.
