In the coming years, the Education programme of the EWUU alliance will focus on two key themes: Transdisciplinary Learning and Enabling Inter-Institutional Education. At EWUU Education, we use a matrix structure to organize our work around these themes, fostering collaboration and consolidating learning processes across our institutions. The theme leaders have recently begun their respective roles, making this the perfect opportunity to introduce them to you.
Transdisciplinary Education
The theme of Transdisciplinary Learning (TD) is supported by three teams: the Flexible Innovative Education team, which focuses on driving innovation in educational design; the Lifelong Learning team, dedicated to professional education for both university staff and external learners; and the Educational Research team, which conducts research on educational practices and concepts.
The mission of this theme is to support the (re)design of collaborative, transdisciplinary educational programmes, courses, and modules across the EWUU institutes. In addition, this theme has co-developed resources such as the Transition Makers Toolbox and the Challenge Based Learning Platform. It also fosters diverse learning communities and promotes Life Long Learning through various offerings. Lastly, the theme provides grants aligned with the alliance research agenda, focusing on the design of innovative learning environments and their role in fostering and sustaining adaptive expertise.
Introducing Theme Lead Dimitra Mousa
“I’m Dimitra Mousa, and I am thrilled to take on the role of Theme Lead for Transdisciplinary (TD) Education within EWUU. Over the past four years, I’ve had the pleasure of working within the EWUU alliance, and I’m excited to embrace this new opportunity to support and coordinate activities in TD education. Together, we’ll create enriching opportunities for students and professionals across our institutions, uniting diverse perspectives to foster learning and collaboration that transcend disciplinary boundaries.
If you have ideas or are interested in contributing to transdisciplinary education at EWUU, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I look forward to connecting with many of you and exploring ways to make TD education thrive at EWUU!”
Enabling Inter-Institutional Education
This theme enables students to broaden their curricula by taking courses beyond the boundaries of their home institutions. By evaluating student mobility and continuously improving the platform, EduXchange, it aims to increase both the number and quality of student participants in EWUU learning activities.
In addition, this theme identifies and addresses bottlenecks in learning procedures, structures, and policies. Collaborating with EWUU’s research programmes—Preventive Health and Circular Society—and the EWUU institutions, it seeks synergies and works to expand joint course offerings.
Introducing Theme Lead Lianne de Jong
Lianne de Jong, part of TU/e innovation Space, dedicates two days a week to EWUU alliance education.
“With my background in design and education, I strive to foster inter-institutional learning activities across our alliance. After approximately 3.5 years of supporting Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) in the EWUU Alliance, I’m excited to step into my new role as Theme Lead for Enabling Inter-Institutional Education. Together, we can further embed flexible learning paths across our institutions and develop thematic packages of complementary offerings.
I’m eager to learn about existing connections, explore new opportunities, and identify potential bottlenecks. If you have any insights or ideas to share, let’s schedule a chat. I look forward to collaborating with you.”
By focusing on these themes, the EWUU alliance aims to create a more accessible, flexible, and integrated educational environment that enhances the learning experience for all learners across the alliance institutions.
