The International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of synthetic biology, education and competition, and the development of an open community and collaboration. It conducts an annual worldwide synthetic biology student competition, iGEM Grand Jamboree where the teams create projects from start to end – from brainstorming to proof of concept. The projects provide students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge and push the boundaries of synthetic biology by addressing unique challenges in their local communities.
