In September we hosted a successful Lunch & Learn session focused on transdisciplinary education. Around 100 participants attended to learn about its importance, education for students, staff and professionals, and ongoing research projects.

Opening Remarks

Ines Lopez Arteaga, Director of Education at the EWUU Alliance, kicked off the session by emphasizing the significance of transdisciplinary education.

Transdisciplinary Education

Following the introduction, Dimitra Mousa (EWUU Education) and Anke de Vrieze (EWUU CUCo) presented on the necessity of transdisciplinary approaches to address complex global issues. They highlighted how the EWUU Alliance supports education for students, staff, and professionals, as well as educational research. This includes consulting on course design, developing educational activities and programs, and fostering collaborations.

Students’ Learning Gains in Challenge-Based Learning

The second part of the session focused on research into transdisciplinary learning. Yvette Baggen and Cassandra Tho from WUR presented their findings on what students learn and which experiences contribute to their learning gains.
