Our Centre for Living Technologies organized the Dutch iGEM (The International Genetically Engineered Machine Foundation) Meet in July 2022.  From 26 October – 28 October the worldwide iGEM 2022 Grand Jamboree takes place in Paris.

The iGEM Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of synthetic biology, education and competition, and the development of an open community and collaboration. It conducts an annual worldwide synthetic biology student competition, iGEM Grand Jamboree where the teams create projects from start to end – from brainstorming to proof of concept. The projects provide students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge and push the boundaries of synthetic biology by addressing unique challenges in their local communities.

Dutch iGEM meet

This event was aimed at bringing all the Dutch iGEM teams on a common platform, allowing them to interact, network, and explore possible partnerships for the iGEM competition. 51 students from 6 Dutch universities (TU Delft, TU/e, University of Groningen, Leiden University, Maastricht University, Wageningen University and Research) participated in the event. Teams presented project pitches. It was followed by brainstorming session where each group had a chance for one-one discussion/networking with the other groups. The students discussed on collaborating on research as well as on outreach activities.
