Om samenwerkingsinitiatieven van de vier alliantie instellingen op het gebied van AI te faciliteren en financieel te ondersteunen, is een Call for Projects geïnitieerd door het programma AI for Health. Er zijn 5 projecten uitgekozen door de jury, om deze samenwerking op gebied van AI verder vorm te geven. Er is maximaal 40.000 euro toegekend.

AI-driven prediction model of complications after corneal transplant surgery
The project builds upon previous independent work by the three parties forming a new collaboration in corneal biomarker development. The project will bring together complementary expertise in surgical ophthalmology (UMC Utrecht), AI for medical image analysis (TU/e) and AI methodology and statistics (UU).

Towards the future of surgery: anatomical recognition in robot-assisted surgery
The project leverages extensive experience and expertise of the partners in clinical practice and research experience in minimally invasive and upper-gastrointestinal surgery (UMC Utrecht), medical object recognition and AI in medical image analysis (TU/e), man-machine interfaces and autonomous intelligent systems (UU), and AI, applied statistics, and realisation of digital twins with a focus on applications in life and environmental sciences (WUR).

AI for Healthy Family Life
The project aims to overcome “intention-behaviour” gap in order to help patients to change their lifestyle within the social dimension of a family. The new partnership aims to leverage the complementary expertise in developing a social health data-platform (TU/e), capturing scientific validated data and knowledge on nutrition an health for personalised advice (WUR), psychology of human behaviour in self-regulatory abilities (UU), and assessing health of vulnerable groups and participatory action research (UMC Utrecht).

Establishing a Consortium to Apply for Horizon Grants about AI-aided Tools for Reviewing Large Amounts of Textual Data to Improve the Efficiency of Healthcare Provision
The project aims to provide effective, explainable, and transparent AI-aided tools in the hands of intelligent decision makers in the healthcare domain. The partnership aims to establish a European consortium and write a grant proposal for the Horizon Europe funding scheme leveraging the expertise of the researchers in software engineering in AI and their solid contribution to Open Science.

A talisman for epilepsy: preparing an online transformer-based clinical research monitor
The project aims to explore the boundaries of a potentially powerful AI-driven tool through the new partnership with complementary expertise in epilepsy research (UMC Utrecht), explainable AI to facilitate the implementation of Natural Language Processing (TU/e), and the recent transformer-based sequence processing and essential input in model fine-tuning (UU).
